White Plaster Masks

Description

Well... These are two of the masks that were supposed to go with my collecton "nevermore". View collection gallery folder here-->[link]

Neither of them is finished and I guess I wont be finshing them before next year. :depressed:

I used for both of them 2,5 rolls of plaster, horns have a brass wired armature underneath+ old newspapers, finally covered with PVA glue. Theres about ~3 layers of plaster in the weakest areas. :I There are 4 little hooks on the other side so the mask can be fastened with elastic band.

And before making the masks I had to make sth like a base mold. Before the masks, made a plaster head and face of myself, then "built up" the base form with cardboard on it + A LOT of glue. Then just coverd the whole thing with cooking foil and started to make the masks with plaster.

Managed to solve the breathing problem~ :la: Almost...

Altho, I am trying to make the next years collection sth where I could also use these, because its just a pity if I really have to just throw them away...

Im thinking maybe a medieval+victorian steampunk fairy theme + ancient masks with cogs.^^ I also thought, maybe Ill make the next ones as half-masks and without horns, cuz it takes too much plaster to make these.

On another note, if youre still reading- does the horns give these masks a "devilish" feel? I mean, its kind of wrong to propagate satanism theme on a runway if the horns remind of it. >.<" I luv horns~ <3

I was aiming for ram horns, but guess, it turned out way different. :<

I know this comment is a little late to the whole 'devilish or goat-ish' look, but here is what I can say in case you make more.
These horns resemble more of a devilish look, as they're not quite to ram's just yet, and I will talk particularly about the spiraled horn mask.
If you needed more of a ram's look, the horns needed to be a little more drawn out and definitely thicker. But, if you are trying to use as little plaster for it as possible, I can see why you might not have got very thick and elongated the tip of the horn. The horns would have needed to be pretty thick, which actually may have become cumbersome and would possibly make the mask hard to keep on the face. Making it so the horns could rest on the head is a good idea, taking away the stress for the string/ribbon/whatever you have to place it on to use it for a mask.

But, when it comes down to it, they do have that Goat look to it in the face. With the horns, it should be easy for people to realize what it is, and if people begin talk about "Oh, why did he make devil mask?", just go with whatever you think is best to say. Correct them to it being a Ram, tell them that because it was for a runway show "the devil wears Prada, right?", or just say the animal in the mask or the demon within represent something about the industry/show/or company it is for -- and make up something about that from the company it's for.

So, I've probably wasted enough of your time, have a good one. Keep up the work, hopefully, 'cause it is pretty damn good.
